Briana Harris (she/her) is a Brooklyn-based librettist, lyricist and composer. She is a member of the BMI Librettists Workshop, the Theatre Now NY Musical Theatre Writers Lab, and a graduate of the NYU Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program. Concerts of her musicals Pompeii Rising (co-libretto/ co-lyrics), The Spectacle of Spectres: An Evening in the Green-Wood Cemetery (libretto/lyrics/music), and The Axeman’s Jazz (libretto/ lyrics) have graced various New York stages in recent years. While theatres were closed, she wrote and developed several virtual one-act musicals, which were streamed by the Astoria Performing Arts Center, the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, and the Sound of Arts Festival. Her virtual space opera, The Dragon Transfer (libretto), was developed as part of the 2021 NYU Tisch Advanced Opera Lab, sponsored by the American Opera Project. In 2024, her piece The Song of the Earth/ 大地之歌 (libretto/ lyrics) was selected as a semi-finalist for the Eugene O’Neill National Music Theater Conference. Briana taught and generated curriculum for Theatre Now NY’s High School Musical Theatre Writing Workshop, and she currently hosts and co-produces Verse Intro Cabaret, a series featuring new work by fellow composer-lyricists.
